Congleton Freecycle
I wonder how many people know about ‘freecycling’ in the Town?
It isn’t a new way of cycling to work!! It’s a way of putting those unwanted things to good use, rather than throwing them away!
It’s on the net, of course, at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/congletonfreecycle/ and the mechanics take a little bit of patience and care to set up. We'll put a link to it in the links section on this site.
Once you have it gives you a message board where you can post things you want to give away and an email address for people to contact you. The rest is obvious: people email you to say they are interested, you email back your contact details and the item is collected…
What we hadn’t bargained on is the great pleasure to be derived from this process. We had some metal bunk beds and an old type TV which we were planning to take to the recycling site, but the beds were difficult to transport. The freecycling site came up in conversation with some friends so I joined but I then posted both items on the board and within a day both items had willing collectors.
The bunk beds were a challenge to transport but the family who needed the beds desperately managed it very proficiently; their own bunk beds had collapsed with the boys on the floor. The TV was easier!
The reward was an email back from the bunk bed family – ‘Hi Peter, I just wanted to say BIG THANK YOU for letting us have the beds, I have to got 2 very grateful boys and they will be put to good use, thanks again, take care!
With a little effort that was better than a trip down the tip any day!! Reuse is SO MUCH better than recycling.
What have you thrown away lately that someone else could make good use of?
